Chennai Super Kings are on a roll in the IPL 2020 having defeated defending champions Mumbai Indians in the tournament opener in Abu Dhabi on Saturday (Sep 19). Even though Chennai are with out Suresh Raina, Harbhajan Singh and Dwayne Bravo, they were full of confidence during their five-wicket victory over MI.
Raina and Harbhajan opted out of the tournament for personal reasons while Bravo had to sit out of the first game having not fully match fit. According to their head coach Stephen Fleming, the premium all-rounder Bravo is likely to miss the second game of CSK as well which will be played against Rajasthan Royals on Tuesday (Sep 22) in Sharjah.

Bravo was part of the Trinbago Knight Riders squad which recently won the title in the Caribbean Premier League 2020. Though he was named in the playing XI of the Final which was played ten days earlier, he didn't bowl in that game due to knee injury he sustained. According to Fleming, Bravo is yet to fully recover from the knee injury.
How did Bravo's replacement Sam Curran's perform?
England's all-rounder Sam Curran who played in place of Bravo in the tournament opener against Mumbai Indians did put on a match-winning performance on Saturday. He registered bowling figures of 1/28 and scored 18 runs off just 6 deliveries which includes 2 sixes and a four.
What did Fleming say about Bravo's injury?
"Dwayne was injured so he is probably out for the first two games. But Sam's performance was a big positive. His attitude is quite infectious. His performance today was quite outstanding. Straight off the plane yesterday. If Dwayne was fit, it would have been a toss-up if Curran had played at all. So he has taken this opportunity and put some pressure on," said Fleming after CSK's victory over MI in the season opener.
Conclusion:
On the other hand, Lungi Ngidi (another overseas bowler of CSK) picked up three wickets in the opener against Mumbai. With these kind of performances from Sam Curran and Lungi Ngidi, it would surely going to be a happy selection headache for CSK once Bravo is fully match-ready!
