Ishant Sharma ruled out of Australia tour

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has released an update related to the recovery of Indian pacer Ishant Sharma and opener Rohit Sharma. As per BCCI, Ishant has completely recovered from the side strain he sustained during the IPL 2020 season. However, he will still miss the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Australia as he is yet to achieve Test match fitness.

On the other hand, Rohit Sharma had to travel to Mumbai after the completion of IPL 2020 to attend his ailing father. With his father condition improving (as per BCCI media release), Rohit travelled to Bengaluru to start his rehabilitation at the NCA in Bengaluru. Next assessment on Rohit will be on December 11 following which a decision on his participation will be made on his travel plan to Australia for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy four-match Test series.

BCCI Media release on Ishant Sharma: "Ishant has recovered completely from his side strain injury sustained during IPL 2020 in the U.A.E. While he’s building up his workload in order to achieve Test match fitness, Mr Ishant Sharma has been ruled out of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy."

BCCI Media release on Rohit Sharma: "He is presently undergoing rehabilitation at the NCA. Mr Rohit Sharma’s next assessment will be conducted on December 11th following which the BCCI will have clarity on his participation in the upcoming Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Australia. Mr Rohit Sharma had to come back to Mumbai after the IPL to attend his ailing father. His father is now recuperating well and that has allowed him to travel to the NCA and start his rehabilitation."

Meanwhile, right-arm pacer Navdeep Saini reported back spasm which he sustained during the first ODI of the three-match series against Australia on Friday (Nov 27). BCCI has added T Natarajan to India's ODI squad as a backup for Saini.
