The latest Test rankings after the completion of the first Test match between India and Australia are out. Aussie pacer Josh Hazlewood who broke the back of Indian batting in the second innings of Adelaide Test gained four positions to settle at the fifth position.
Hazlewood currently have 803 rating points while his best was 863 rating points and the third place in the bowler rankings. He just have to continue what he is doing now in the Border Gavaskar Trophy to get into the top 3 of the ICC rankings! Hazlewood picked up a wicket in first innings while returned superb bowling figures of 5/8 in second innings. In the process, he also claimed his 200th Test wicket.
On the other hand, Pat Cummins was impressive in both the innings with the ball. He has 3-fer in the first innings and a 4-fer in the second innings of the Adelaide Test match (3/48 & 4/21). And with it he earned 6 points and taken his current tally to 910 rating points. And with it, the No.1 ranked bowler increased his lead with 2nd placed Stuart Broad to 65 points.
Meanwhile, Australian pacer Mitchell Starc also retained his place at the seventh position in the ICC Test Bowler Rankings. He has 4-fer in the first innings. Indian spinner Ravichandran Ashwin who bagged five wickets in the Test match moved up one position to ninth position becoming the top ranked Indian in the Bowler rankings.
Jasprit Bumrah who was at the eighth position prior to Adelaide Test match lost two places and is currently at the tenth position. He bagged only two wickets in the Test match being wicketless in the second innings.
Virat Kohli was placed No. 2 in the ICC Batsmen Rankings. Courtesy of a half-century in the first innings he gained 10 rating points while the No. 1 ranked Steven Smith lost two points as he scored only 2 runs (1 & 1*) in the Test match!
The gap between Smith and Kohli is just 13 rating points. With Virat Kohli not featuring in the rest of the Test series owing to paternity leave, this would be an wonderful opportunity to increase the gap between him and Kohli. Moreover, New Zealand captain Kane Williamson is at the third place and he need only 12 rating points to surpass second-placed Virat Kohli.
