Round up 2020 - Top 3 bowling spells in T20Is

The T20I is the make or break format among all the three formats of the game. You lose a moment and its almost hard to make a comeback into the game as the format is the shortest form of the game. With the oddest of years 2020 concluded, let us revisit the top three bowling spells in T20Is in the year 2020.

#3. Haroon Arshad (Hong Kong): 3.1 – 0 – 16 – 5

Hong Kong were put into bat first by Nepal in the third match of ACC Eastern Series T20 played in Bangkok. Courtesy of a 58-run opening partnership and couple of twenties from their middle order, Hong Kong posted 154/6 in 20 overs. In reply, Nepal were bundled out for just 111 conceding Hong Kong a 43-run victory.

Haroon Arshad played a crucial role in this victory with a five-for. He removed Nepal’s openers after a 42-run opening stand and cleaned up their lower order to pick up his maiden 5-wicket haul and help Hong Kong win this game.

#2. Deusdedit Muhumuza (Uganda): 3.4 – 1 – 13 – 5

Uganda were put into bat first by Qatar in this third and final T20I of the 3-match series. Having won both the first two T20Is of the series, Qatar was eyeing for a whitewash in this series but Uganda bowler Muhumuza helped Uganda stage a comeback in this final T20I. Uganda posted 134/6 in their 20 overs and restricted Qatar to just 116 runs, thereby wining the match by 18 runs.

Qatar almost cruised to victory in this game with 99 runs on the board and having lost only 4 wickets. And then Uganda’s Deusdedit Muhumuza unleashed himself on the Qatar middle order as he picked up a 5-fer in this match. Incidentally, he picked up 2 wickets in 2 balls twice in this match – in the 16th over (15.3 & 15.4) and the 19th over (18.3 & 18.4). Moreover, his spell in this match includes a maiden over as well – a rarity in this format!

#1. Khizar Hayat (Malaysia): 2 – 0 – 4 – 5

Malaysia batted first and scored 123/3 in 16.3 overs before rain cut short the match. They did not bat later and the target for Hong Kong was adjusted to 83 in 9 overs as per the DLS method. With a bowler allowed to bowl a maximum of just 2 overs in this rain-curtailed game, Khizar Hayat still found a way to pick up five wickets!

He picked up 2 wickets in his first over and three wickets in his second over to register his maiden 5-wicket haul in this format of the game and help Malaysia win by 21 runs in this game. Till date, Khizar Hayat is the only bowler to have picked up a 5-fer for Malaysia in the T20Is!
