Injured Rahul out of Australia Tests

In what comes as a sad news for Team India and their fans, KL Rahul has been ruled out of the rest of the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy owing to a wrist injury. He sustained the injury during net practice at MCG on Saturday (Jan 02) and would need at least three weeks to fully recover from it.

As per the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) media release, Rahul is now set to leave Australia to head to National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru for his rehabilitation.

Official press release from BCCI:

“KL Rahul sprained his left wrist while batting in the nets at the MCG during Team India’s practice session on Saturday. The wicketkeeper-batsman will not be available for the remaining two Tests of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy as he will need about three weeks time to recover completely and regain full strength.”

“He will now return to India and head to the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru for further rehabilitation of his injury.”

Rahul becomes third players in the Indian camp to sustain an injury and leave in the midway! Pacers Mohammad Shami (arm injury in the first Test) and Umesh Yadav (calf strain in the second Test) were earlier ruled out of the Test series against Australia. In the midst of all this drama, the addition of Rohit Sharma who joined the squad just after the MCG Test would be a great asset for the visitors in this series.

The four-match series is currently level 1-1 after the first two matches. Home team Australia won the first Test match at Adelaide Oval by 8 wickets while India made a great comeback to win the second Test at MCG by 8 wickets and square the series. The third Test match of the series is scheduled to be played at Sydney Cricket Ground in Sydney beginning from Thursday (Jan 07).
