England pacer Jofra Archer has been ruled out of the second Test match in the ongoing 4-match series against India owing to a fresh elbow injury. According to England & Wales Cricket Board (ECB), this has nothing to do with any of his previous injuries and is a new one. ECB are currently monitoring the player hoping to see him in the third test (Day-Night) in Ahmedabad.
“Jofra Archer will miss England Men’s second Test against India in Chennai starting on Saturday [Feb 13] after having an injection in his right elbow. The injection follows discomfort the fast bowler experienced during the 227-run win in the first Test at the same venue,” stated ECB in a media release.
“The issue is not related to any previous injury and it is hoped the treatment will allow the condition to settle down quickly, allowing the player to return to action in time for the third Test in Ahmedabad,” added the release.
Archer bagged 3 wickets in England’s 227-run victory in the first Test of the series in Chennai. Dismissed Indian openers Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill in the first innings and Jasprit Bumrah in the second innings.
On the other hand, Stuart Broad is rumored to replace James Anderson in the playing XI for the second Test match. If that is certain, England currently have two all-rounders in Chris Woakes and Moeen Ali warming the bench who could replace Archer in the playing XI for the second Test in Chennai.
