Pakistan national selectors on Sunday (Jan 31) have announced their 20-member squad for the upcoming three-match T20I series against South Africa. All the three T20Is of the series are scheduled to be hosted by Gadaffi Stadium in Lahore.
The home team has made seven exclusions from their T20I squad that recently featured in New Zealand. Surprisingly, Mohammed Hafeez has been excluded from the squad. According to PCB, Hafeez is not available to join the squad’s bio-bubble which starts on February 03.
As per PCB media release, all-rounders Shadab Khan and Imad Wasim are also unavailable for this series. On the other hand, opener Fakhar Zaman and left-arm pacer Wahab Riaz have been dropped from the T20 squad keeping their recent poor performances in mind.
Inexperienced Abdullah Shafique and Mohammad Musa have also been dropped. Danish Aziz, Asif Ali, Aamer Yamin, Amad Butt, Mohammad Nawaz, Zafar Gohar, Hasan Ali, Zahid Mehmood are the players who have been selected in place of excluded players.
“The squad along with the officials will enter the bio-secure bubble from Wednesday, February 3, the players taking part in the Test series will join the bubble at the end of the second Test that starts in Rawalpindi on Thursday, 4 February,” stated Pakistan Cricket Board in their media release.
In the ongoing South Africa tour of Pakistan 2021, Pakistan won the first Test match in Karachi by a margin of 7 wickets. The second Test match will be played in Rawalpindi beginning from Thursday (Feb 04). Later the three T20Is will be played at the Gadaffi Stadium in Lahore on Feb 11, 13 and 14.
