South Africa seal WT20I series victory over Pakistan

Home Team South Africa Women have dominated the 3-match T20I series against Pakistan Women at home. South Africa won the 3-match series by a margin of 2-1. The third and final T20I was shaping up to be a nail-biter towards the end but the rain had the final say in the result of the game.

Let us relive how this series went by!

T20I #1: South Africa Women won by 8 wickets

Pakistan put on a horror show with the bat after electing to bat first. Four of their players gone past the 20-run mark but none couldn’t make it a big score. Ayesha Naseem (31 off 25) top-scored for them as Pakistan finished with 124/8 on the board. South Africa chased down the target with 8 wickets in hand and an over to spare in their innings.

South African opener Tazmin Brits was the pick of the players from both the teams with an unbeaten half-century – 52* off 54 balls. Meanwhile, South Africa’s Shabnim Ismail bagged two wickets in this game taking her wickets tally past 100 in this format. She became only the fourth player in Women T20Is to achieve this feat.

T20I #2: South Africa Women won by 18 runs

After being sent into bat first, South Africa was once again dependent on their opener Tazmin Brits. She scored 66 runs off 58 deliveries including 8 fours and a six. The home team finished their innings with 133/5 on the board in 20 overs. Though the target seemed to be just par at the half-way, it proved to be more than enough for the home team on the other side of the innings break!

South African pacer Shabnim Ismail ripped through the Pakistan line-up during the chase and in the process, she registered her best bowling figures in this format – 5/12 in 4 overs. Pakistan managed to score just 115/7 in 20 overs conceding an 18-run victory for the hosts. With this victory, South Africa also took an unassailable lead of 2-0 in this 3-match series.

T20I #3: Pakistan won by 8 runs (DLS method)

After being sent into bat first, Pakistan scored 127/6 in 20 overs. Though the total seems to be par, this is apparently their highest total in this series! Captain Javeria Khan stood up to the occasion with an unbeaten half-century in this innings – 56* off 50 balls with 5 fours. Shabnim Ismail who was the star performer for Proteas in the first two games failed to pick up a single wicket in this match.

During the chase, South Africa started off slowly with three early wickets for just 24 runs on the board. Rain interrupted the match during the 13th over of the chase and the home team needed 60 runs from 45 deliveries with 6 wickets in hand at that stage. Pakistan was 8 runs ahead as per DLS score during the rain interruption and the visitors were declared winners as the rain didn’t relent since then. For the record, this is the only victory for Pakistan in this tour in which they lost all the 3 ODIs and the first two T20Is of the 3-match series.
