Unlike some players who get rewarded from playing in PSL or LPL and making comments on IPL, there are many others who see Indian Premier League not just from the money angle! Australian head coach emphasized the fact that they might select few players of their T20 World Cup squad based on their performances in the upcoming season of IPL 2021.
The upcoming World T20 2021 is scheduled to be hosted in India. Even though IPL 2020 was hosted in UAE owing to the pandemic, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) have made arrangements to host it in India this year.
“There’s no better showcase for some of our players. They’re playing in the same conditions. We’ll watch that really closely and see who performs well. It’s a great opportunity for a lot of players. They get to play a lot of cricket under pressure, that can only benefit them individually and us collectively,” said Justin Langer.
Riley Meredith who recently made his T20I debut for Australia was bought for a whopping price of INR 8 crore by Punjab Kings. Glenn Maxwell failed to hit a single six in IPL 2020 but he was sold to RCB for INR 14.25 crores. We believe these two players have great opportunities ahead of them to prove a point in the upcoming season of IPL.
Not just Australia, the coincidence of IPL and World T20 being played in the same year, in the same country might even prompt other nations to send their players to IPL to gain much-needed experience ahead of the marque event. We might even witness players skip their national teams to feature in IPL 2021. The pressure of playing and winning in IPL is unlike anything one gets to experience.
The IPL 2021 is scheduled to kick start on April 09 and will be played until May 30. BCCI has recently released the fixtures of the tournament in which none of the 8 teams are going to play a single game at their home ground, not even the playoffs! All the playoffs including the Final will be played in Ahmedabad. On the other hand, World T20 2021 will be played in October later this year.
