Jofra Archer ruled out of the India ODI series

England ace pacer Jofra Archer has been ruled out of the 3-match ODI series against India that kick starts from Tuesday (Mar 23). According to England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB), the right-arm pacer sustained an elbow injury from which he is yet to recover fully.

The same injury sidelined Archer for two of the Test matches against India in the 4-match series that was played prior to the recently concluded 5-match T20I series. He missed the second and the fourth Test match and England lost both of them. However, he made a comeback and played all the five T20Is against India bowling his full-quota of 20 overs in the series.

Things have not been normal for the pacer with the elbow injury and he is now being sent home for a quick recovery from the same injury. According to ECB, Archer is set to miss all the 3 ODIs in the upcoming bilateral series in India and will miss the first few games for Rajasthan Royals in the IPL.

“Jofra Archer is returning to the UK for further management and investigation of his right elbow injury. Archer’s elbow issue has deteriorated over the course of the Twenty20 International series and made it increasingly challenging for him to maintain performance levels,” stated ECB in their media release.

“Archer has been deemed unfit for selection for the ODI series that features matches on 23, 26 and 28 March. The ECB medical team will assess the player and, together with Jofra, develop a treatment plan and a return-to-play schedule in due course. As a consequence, Jofra will miss the start of this year’s Indian Premier League,” added the media release.

At this juncture, there is no clear information on when Archer would be able to join his team Rajasthan Royals (RR) in the IPL 2021 that begins on April 09. For the record, Jofra was the ‘Most Valuable Player’ in the IPL 2020 that was hosted in UAE last year. He delivered both with the bat and the ball even though RR bagged a wooden spoon. He will be dearly missed in the upcoming season even though it is for a few games.
