Hosts New Zealand defeated struggling Bangladesh by a mammoth margin in the third and final ODI on Friday (Mar 26) to complete a 3-0 whitewash. Henry Nicholls and Daryl Mitchell both scored centuries each as Kiwis won the game by a mammoth margin of 164 runs.
Having opted to bat first, NZ lost their first 3 wickets for just 57 runs on the board. A fourth-wicket partnership of 63 runs steadied their ship but they needed a bigger partnership to get them to a good total. Devon Conway (126 off 110) and Daryl Mitchell (100* off 92) then added 159 runs for the fifth wicket and that stand got them close to 300-mark. Once Conway departed, Mitchell remained unbeaten to help Kiwis finish with 318/6 on the board in 50 overs.
During the chase, Bangladesh put on an awful show with the bat! Only three of their batsmen got into double digits. Mahmudullah alone scored 76 while the rest of the team excluding extras contributed just 66 runs! Among New Zealand bowlers, James Neesham bagged 5 wickets while Matt Henry accounted for 4 wickets. Kyle Jamieson picked up the other wicket.
Devon Conway who scored a century in this match is the only player to get over 200 runs in this 3-match series. Courtesy of his performances, he bagged both Player of the Match and Player of the Series awards. With this third ODI, the ODI series comes to an end with hosts winning it by 3-0. The next assignment between these two teams is a 3-match T20I series beginning from Sunday (Mar 28).
