New Zealand veteran batsman Ross Taylor has been ruled out of the first ODI of the 3-match series against Bangladesh owing to his left hamstring injury. Mark Chapman has been included in the side as a batting cover for Taylor for the first ODI.
According to New Zealand Cricket (NZC), Taylor sustained the injury while fielding on the final day of the Plunket Shield Final on Sunday (Mar 15) in Napier. Taylor is doing fine at the moment and resting for the first ODI is only a precautionary measure. NZC is hopeful that Taylor would be available from the second match of the series.
“It’s a shame for Ross to have this happen on the eve of a series. It’s a small tear and we’re hopeful after some rest and rehabilitation we can get him fit for the second game in Christchurch. It’s an exciting time for Mark who’s come in and performed well recently for the T20 side, so we have full confidence he can do the job if called upon,” said Gary Stead, New Zealand head coach.
Mark Chapman has thus far played 6 ODIs for New Zealand and has a century on debut against UAE in 2015. The first ODI between New Zealand and Bangladesh will be played on Saturday (March 20). The second and third ODIs of the series will be played on Tuesday (Mar 23) and Friday (Mar 26).
