Mumbai Indians (MI) defeated Rajasthan Royals (RR) by a margin of 7 wickets in Delhi in the first game on Thursday (Apr 29) to put an end to their 2-match losing streak. On a lighter note, Royals walked into this trap with a blunder in their batting order where they batted Shivam Dube ahead of David Miller.
After being sent into bat first, Royals got off to a good start with their openers adding 66 runs for the first wicket. Jos Buttler scored 41 runs off 32 deliveries while the other young opener Yashasvi Jaiswal scored 32 runs off 20 deliveries to give them a good start. Their captain Sanju Samson too contributed with the bat scoring a 27-ball 42. Shivam Dube who walked in at no. 4 scored 35 runs but consumed a good amount of 31 deliveries. Even though RR got to 171/3 in 20 overs, they could’ve got even better score had Dube played with a better strike rate!
Chasing a good target, Mumbai Indians opener Quinton de Kock (70* runs off 50 balls) remained unbeaten till the end guiding them to a 7-wicket victory. With Ishan Kishan dropped for this match, Krunal Pandya was promoted to no. 4 and he had performed well scoring 39 runs with 2 fours and 2 sixes. The 63-run stand between Quinton and Krunal for the 3rd wicket was the highlight of MI’s batting in this match. Eventually, MI chased down the target with 7 wickets in hand and 1.3 overs to spare in their innings. Quinton de Kock has also adjudged as the Player of the Match for his unbeaten match-winning half-century.
