Sri Lanka rout West Indies to complete 2-0 whitewash

Sri Lanka defeated West Indies by a huge margin of 164 runs to complete a 2-0 whitewash against the West Indies. Mickey Arthur, Sri Lanka's head coach, has got a perfect farewell gift from the team! To those who are unaware, this is Arthur's final assignment with the Sri Lankan team!

Sri Lanka won the first Test match quite comfortably but they were under the hammer in the second Test match! Despite securing a lead in the first innings of the 2nd Test match, West Indies crumbled on Day 5 to give Sri Lanka the match as well as the series!

Test #1: Sri Lanka defeated West Indies by 187 runs

Sri Lankan captain Dimuth Karunaratne led with the bat as he alone amassed 230 in both the innings combined! They have taken a lead of 156 runs in the first innings as West Indies were bowled out for just 230 runs against Sri Lanka's 386. Having garnered such a lead, the home team declared their second innings with 191/4 on the board, setting a target of 348 runs! West Indies, expectedly, failed to chase it down but were also bowled out for just 160 runs conceding a massive 187-run victory. Karunaratne was deservingly declared as Player of the Match! With the ball, Ramesh Mendis bagged 7 wickets in this match for Sri Lanka.

Test #2: Sri Lanka defeated West Indies by 164 runs

Most of the play on the first two days was taken interrupted by rain! Still, we were able to see a result in this Test match. A good one for Sri Lanka! West Indies were in complete command of this Test match until they lose their third wicket in their first innings! In response to Sri Lanka's 204, Windies scored 166 for the loss of 2 wickets and it all came down crumbling since then for the visitors!

Though Windies managed to take a meager 49-run lead in the first innings, they couldn't restrict Sri Lanka off to a low total in their second innings. Courtesy of Dhananjaya de Silva's unbeaten 155*, Sri Lanka declared their second innings on Day 5 with 345/9 on the board, setting a target of 297 for the visitors! The fourth innings was a nightmare for West Indies as they are bowled out for just 132 runs conceding Sri Lanka a massive 164-run victory as well as the series!

Ramesh Mendis and Lasith Embuldeniya bagged a 5-wicket haul on Day 5 as Sri Lanka marched to a huge victory! Ramesh Mendis also bagged the Player of the Series award for his 18 wickets in this match!
