Test debut for Alex Carey in Gabba

Australia have announced Tim Paine's successor for the upcoming Ashes series. Experienced white-ball cricketer Alex Carey has been appointed to do the glovework behind the stumps in the first Ashes Test match against England in Gabba which starts on Wednesday (Dec 08).

Carey who made his International debut in 2018 is yet to play his first Test match for Australia. With 45 caps in ODIs and 38 caps in T20Is, he has got enough international experience under his belt. Cometh the first Ashes Test in Gabba, Carey will become 461st player to represent Australia in this longer format of the game!

Former captain Tim Paine had last month announced to give up his captaincy role in the wake of the sexting scandal that happened years ago! He then decided to take a long break from cricket citing his mental health condition. With that decision, Australian selectors were forced to pick up a new captain as well as a new keeper with the all important Ashes fast approaching!

Last week, Cricket Australia announced that pacer Pat Cummins will lead in the upcoming Ashes series while making Steve Smith as his deputy. Alex Carey and Josh Inglis were among the keeping options out of which, Carey had been appointed! Here's wishing Carey wishing all the best for his upcoming maiden Test match!

"I  am incredibly humbled by this opportunity. It’s an exciting build-up for what is a huge series ahead. My focus is on preparing and playing my part in helping Australia secure the Ashes," said Alex Carey after the appointment.
