England made a great comeback in the second Test match against South Africa to win it by an innings margin and level the series 1-1 in this 3-match series at home. It was South Africa who won the first Test match by an innings margin inside 3 days and England returned the favor in the second Test match winning it by an innings margin and also inside 3 days!

South Africa once again won the toss this series but for a change, they opted to bat first this time! They brought in a second spinner (Simon Harmer) into the playing XI replacing in-form pacer Marco Jansen which turned out to be a big blunder in the end!
South Africa were bowled out for just 151 runs in their first innings with their pacer Kagiso Rabada top scoring for them with 36 runs. James Anderson and Stuart Broad bagged 3 wickets each while captain Ben Stokes picked up 2 wickets and Ollie Robinson and Jack Leach accounted for a wicket each.
Hosts England, in reply, took a surpassed Proteas total in the first innings with 5 wickets in hand as they went on to register 400+ total! Wicket-keeper Ben Foakes (113*) and captain Ben Stokes (103) scored centuries each as the home team declared their first innings with 415/9 on the board taking a 264-run lead. Anrich Nortje bagged another 3-wicket haul and that was the only positive for visitors in this innings!
South Africa were then bowled out for just 179 runs in their second innings conceding a massive victory by an innings and 85 runs. Keegan Petersen (42) and Rassie van der Dussen (41) scored in the 40s but Proteas couldn't afford to set a target! Ollie Robinson and James Anderson bagged 4 and 3 wickets respectively while Stokes (2 wickets) and Broad (1) also contributed with the ball.
Ben Stokes has been adjudged as the Player of the Match for his contribution both with the bat and the ball. He scored 103 runs in the only innings England batted and registered 2-wicket hauls in both the innings! The 3-match Test series is currently level 1-1 with the third Test match beginning on September 08 at The Oval in London.
