Toss Update: Scotland won the toss and opted to bat first.
Having opted to bat first, Scotland scored 132 on the board losing 6 wickets in 20 overs. George Munsey (54 off 51) top scored for them with a half-century but he would have liked it if that innings came at a better strike rate. Overall, they only managed to score below par total with almost everyone playing with a minimal batting strike rate.
Tendai Chatara was the pick of Zimbabwean bowlers with figures of 2-14 from his 4 overs including a maiden over. Bowling in pressure matches was tough and bowling a maiden over in those matches is pure gold for any team, so well done Chatara! Richard Ngarava (2-28), Sikandar Raza (1-20), and Blessing Muzarabani (1-34) were their other wicket-takers in this innings.
Zimbabwe, chasing 133 runs to win, managed to score 133 losing 5 wickets in 18.3 overs. Craig Ervine is back as captain for the side and made a great statement with the bat scoring 58 runs off 54 deliveries including 6 fours. Sikandar Raza (40 off 23) played aggressively taking pressure off his captain and that paid dividends!
In fact, Zimbabwe lost their first two wickets for just 7 runs on the board and the 3rd wicket with just 42 runs on the board. However, Sikandar brought back Zimbabwe into the game with his aggressive gameplay with the bat. In the end, they got over the line with 5 wickets in hand and 9 balls to spare in their innings.
Match result: Zimbabwe defeated Scotland by a margin of 5 wickets.
Sikandar Raza has been adjudged as the Player of the Match for his crucial contribution of 40 off 23 balls with the bat and 1-20 from 4 overs with the ball. Zimbabwe are through to the next round with this victory while Scotland are knocked out of the tournament.
