Sri Lanka thrash Ireland in first Test match

Srilanka crushed visiting side Ireland by an innings margin to take 1-0 last in the 2-match series at home! Batting first, Srilanka declared their first innings with 591/6 on the board with four of their batters scoring a century each - Dimuth Karunaratne (179), Kusal Mendis (140), Sadeera Samarawickrama (104), and Dinesh Chandimal (102*).

Ireland, in reply, were bowled out for 143 in their first innings. With the lead being huge, the home team Srilanka enforced the follow-on and Ireland struggled for the second time in the match as they were bowled out for 168 runs in the second innings conceding SL a huge victory by an innings and 280 runs.

Prabath Jayasuriya has once again been instrumental for the hosts with yet another 10-wicket haul. Ireland played over 106 overs in both their innings combined and that itself was an achievement for them in Sri Lankan spin conditions! The visitors will surely look to improve their batting in the final Test match on this tour!

With this huge victory, Sri Lanka are currently enjoying an assailable lead of 1-0 in the 2-match series. The 2nd and final Test match of the series will be played at the same venue (Galle) from Monday (Apr 24)
