Australia are in the driver's seat in the second Ashes Test match as they accumulated 339 runs losing 5 wickets on Day 1 at Lord's. The conditions were overcast and the home team England bowlers were expected to bowl out Australia on Day 1 after electing to bat first.

However, Steven Smith and Travis Head have other ideas guiding them to a competitive total on the first Test day of this Test. The tourists are already 1-0 up beating England at Edgbaston in the first Test match a week ago and are now in a comfortable position in the Lord's Test match.
Aussie opener David Warner started upfront with a brilliant 66 off 88 balls, stitching a 73-run stand for the 2nd wicket. And then Steven Smith took over scoring runs at will. Smith and Marnus Labuschagne (47 off 93) added 102 runs for the 3rd wicket before the latter nicked one to the keeper.
And then entered Travis Head who scored 77 runs off just 73 deliveries including 14 fours. He would've been dismissed many times as there were many close calls during his stay at the crease but he prevailed scoring runs quickly and putting Australia in a commanding position by the end of Day 1.
At the Stumps, Steven Smith is still batting on 85* along with wicket-keeper Alex Carey (batting in 11*) at the other end. With Smith at the crease, Australia would be hoping to breach the 500-run mark in this innings to put the home side under tremendous pressure.
On the other hand, the debutant Josh Tongue and Joe Root were the pick of English bowlers with 2 wickets each while Ollie Robinson bagged the other wicket to fall on Day 1.
