India defeated New Zealand to take 1-0 lead in the first T20I of the five-match series played at the Eden Park in Auckland on Friday (Jan 24). On what proved to be a flat batting track, India turned out to be the better batting unit between the two sides.
After being sent in to bat first, home team New Zealand scored 203 for 5 which India chased down with six wickets in hand and an Over to spare! Colin Munro (59 off 42), Kane Williamson (51 off 26), Ross Taylor (54 off 27), Lokesh Rahul (56 off 27) and Shreyas Iyer (58 off 29) have all registered their personal half-centuries.
Shreyas Iyer has been adjudged as the 'Player of the Match' for his crucial unbeaten knock in this victory. The second T20I of this series is also scheduled to be played at the same venue on Sunday (Jan 26). Play is scheduled to start at 12:30 PM.
