WWT20: New Zealand defeated Sri Lanka by 7 wickets

New Zealand defeated Sri Lanka by a margin of 7 wickets on Saturday (Feb 22) at W.A.C.A Stadium in Perth to open their account in the ongoing Women's World T20 2020. New Zealand Captain Sophie Devine remained unbeaten to take them home with a half-century.

After being sent in to bat first, Sri Lanka managed to score just 127 for 7 despite a 60-run partnership for the first wicket between captain Chamari Athapaththu (41 off 30) and Hasini Perera (20 off 28). In reply, Sophie Devine scored an unbeaten 55-ball 75 to take Kiwis home with 3 wickets in hand and 3.2 overs to spare.

New Zealand bowler Hayley Jensen has been adjudged as the 'Player of the Match' for her bowling figures of 3 for 16 in 4 overs. New Zealand will play their next game against India on Thursday (Feb 27) while Sri Lanka are scheduled to play Australia in their next game on Monday (Feb 24).
