IPL 2020, Match 8: Gill, Morgan guide KKR to maiden victory

IPL 2020, Match 8, Kolkata Knight Riders vs Sun Risers Hyderabad - Kolkata Knight Riders won by 7 wickets

Saturday, Sep 26, 2020, Sheikh Zayed Stadium, Abu Dhabi

Kolkata Knight Riders triumphed Sun Risers Hyderabad to register their first win of the tournament! Disciplined bowling effort followed by a well-paced chase helped KKR to do magnificently and take their first two points of the season! On the other hand, too much of caution having elected to bat first costed the game for Sun Risers!

An early wicket in the form of Jonny Bairstow (5 off 10), followed by a slow 35-run second wicket stand (in 31 deliveries) didn't help Sun Risers get a good start to their innings. And Wriddhiman Saha (30 off 31) lackluster innings in the second half of their innings completely handed the control of the game to Knight Riders.

Manish Pandey scored a half-century batting at No. 3 as SRH finished their innings with just 142/4 in 20 overs. For a line-up of SRH's quality, the total of 142 losing just 4 wickets is just below par! Among KKR bowlers, Pat Cummins, Varun Chakravarthy and Andre Russell bagged a wicket each.

In reply, Knight Riders fumbled at the start losing both Sunil Narine and captain Dinesh Karthik for a Duck each. Young opener Shubman Gill and veteran Eoin Morgan with an unbeaten 92-run stand for the fourth wicket guided KKR to a comfortable 7-wicket victory.

Eight games are done and dusted in IPL 2020 and KKR are the only second team to chase a target this season. CSK were the first to successfully chase this season against MI in the tournament opener. Knight Riders opener Shubman Gill has been adjudged as the 'Player of the Match' for his unbeaten half-century (70* off 62 with 5 fours and 2 sixes) which helped KKR register a comfortable victory.

Brief Scores: Kolkata Knight Riders - 145/3 in 18 overs (Shubman Gill - 70*, Eoin Morgan - 42*, Rashid Khan - 1/25, T Natarajan - 1/27) defeated Sun Risers Hyderabad - 142/4 in 20 overs (Manish Pandey - 51, David Warner - 36, Andre Russell - 1/16, Pat Cummins - 1/19) by a margin of 7 wickets
