Moreover, this victory also boosted Mumbai Indians to the top of the points table with four points from two wins in four games. After being sent into bat first, MI lost opener Quinton de Kock for a Duck in the first over. Ishan Kishan during the middle overs struggled but departed for a 32-ball 28 for the good of Mumbai at the right stage! Captain Rohit Sharma (70 off 45) then shared 41-run stand in 3 overs with Kieron Pollard to give the much-needed momentum for MI. Pollard (47* off 20) and Hardik Pandya (30* off 11) scored 67 runs from the final 3.5 overs to boost Mumbai to 191/4 in 20 overs.

Overall, Mumbai scored 104 runs from the last 6 overs to finish with a 190-plus total on the board. Bowling Krishnappa Gowtham (off-spinner) to Pollard and Hardik in the final over (0 6 1 6 6 6) proved to be very costly for Punjab. Meanwhile, Sheldon Cottrell who was hit for 5 sixes off an over by Rahul Tewatia in their previous game made a comeback as he conceded just 20 runs from his 4 overs.

Chasing a good total, Punjab lost both their in-form openers KL Rahul (17 off 19) and Mayank Agarwal (25 off 18) cheaply! Nicholas Pooran (44 off 27) batted with a good strike rate but he did not get support from other end! Glenn Maxwell (11 off 18) has one more game to forget and with it the pressure is mounting on him to contribute!

Jasprit Bumrah is the pick of Mumbai bowlers with bowling figures of 2/18 in his 4 overs. Kieron Pollard has been adjudged as the 'Player of the Match' for his contribution in two crucial partnerships which helped Mumbai post a mammoth total on the board in the first innings.

Brief Scores: Mumbai Indians - 191/4 in 20 overs (Rohit Sharma - 70, Kieron Pollard - 47*, Sheldon Cottrell - 1/20, Mohammad Shami - 1/36) defeated Kings XI Punjab - 143/8 in 20 overs (Nicholas Pooran - 44, Mayank Agarwal - 25, Jasprit Bumrah - 2/18, Rahul Chahar - 2/26) by a margin of 48 runs
