Having opted to bat first, KKR had a fumbled start losing four wickets for just 42 runs on the board. And the wicket of all-rounder Andre Russell in the 11th over complicated things for Knight Riders in the game. However, captain Eoin Morgan and Pat Cummins then shared an unbeaten 87*-run partnership to take them to a competitive total of 148/5 in 20 overs.
In the process, Pat Cummins (53* off 36) scored his maiden fifty in Indian Premier League while Eoin Morgan (39* off 29) provided the support with the bat from the other end. Among MI bowlers, Rahul Chahar bagged two wickets while Trent Boult, Nathan Coulter-Nile and Jasprit Bumrah all bagged a wicket each.
During the chase, Mumbai did not put a foot wrong! A 94-run opening partnership and an in-form Quinton de Kock (78* off 44 deliveries, 9 fours, 3 sixes) led the way with the bat helping Mumbai Indians get over the line with 8 wickets in hand and 3.1 overs to spare in their innings. Among KKR bowlers, Shivam Mavi and Varun Chakravarthy bagged a wicket each.
Courtesy of his match-winning knock with the bat, Quinton de Kock has been adjudged as the 'Player of the Match'. With this victory, MI moved to top of the points table with 12 points while KKR remained at the fourth position with 8 points. Mumbai have 21 wins out of 27 games against KKR in IPL with this victory! That's quite a dominance MI have against Knight Riders in this tournament.
