Saturday, Oct 24, 2020, Dubai International Cricket Stadium, Dubai

Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) successfully defended a par total of 126 against Sun Risers Hyderabad (SRH) to keep their playoff chances alive in the tournament. SRH did a massive job by restricting KXIP to a low score who had such a massive line-up but miserably failed to get over the line putting a flop show with the bat.

SRH bowlers did a great job by restricting Kings XI to a par total after electing to bowl first. More importantly, they had not conceded a single boundary from 8th over to 17th over. Nicholas Pooran with an unbeaten 32* off 28 balls is Punjab’s top scorer in this innings. KXIP managed to get to just 126/7 in 20 overs. Among SRH bowlers, Sandeep Sharma, Jason Holder and Rashid Khan bagged two wickets each.

During the chase, SRH were in the game until the 16th Over ad then KXIP bowlers turned the game on its head. Sun Risers needed only 30 runs from the last five overs (30 deliveries) with 7 wickets in hand. Moreover, they had Manish Pandey and Vijay Shankar at the crease who led them to 8-wicket victory in their previous game with fifties each. However, Punjab bowlers had different ideas during these death overs.

In the 16th over, Ravi Bishnoi conceded just 2 runs. Chris Jordan conceded 8 runs and picked up the wicket of Manish in the 17th over. Arshdeep then conceded just 3 runs and dismissed Vijay Shankar in the 18th over. Equation was 17 runs needed from last final 12 deliveries with 5 wickets in hand. Very much doable with Holder and Priyam Garg at the crease. But Jordan delivered a brilliant 19th over by conceding just 3 runs and picking up 2 wickets (Jason Holder & Rashid Khan).

Arshdeep managed to pick up two wickets (Sandeep Sharma & Priyam Garg) in the final over and Khaleel’s run-out with 13 needed from 2 balls sealed a comfortable 12-run victory for Kings XI Punjab. Punjab pacer Chris Jordan bagged ‘Player of the Match’ for his brilliant spell of death bowling that helped Punjab bag this much needed victory!

Brief Scores: Kings XI Punjab - 126/7 in 20 overs (Nicholas Pooran - 32, KL Rahul - 27, Rashid Khan - 2/14, Jason Holder - 2/27) defeated Sun Risers Hyderabad - 114 all out in 19.5 overs (David Warner - 35, Vijay Shankar - 26, Chris Jordan - 3/17, Arshdeep Singh - 3/23) by a margin of 12 runs
