Australia crush India in second ODI to win series

Hosts Australia, having opted to bat first, bettered their batting effort from first ODI by 15 runs as they posted a commanding total of 389/4 in their 50 overs. Openers - Aaron Finch (60 off 69) & David Warner (83 off 77) - provided the start with a 142-run stand for the first wicket while Steven Smith was once again impressive as he scored his second successive 62-ball century in this format - 104 off 64 balls with 14 fours and 2 sixes.

Marnus Labuschagne came good with the bat as he he proved his worth with the bat with a half-century - 70 off 61 deliveries. Glenn Maxwell who struggled all through IPL 2020, scored a quick-fire and unbeaten knock of 63* runs off 29 deliveries to get them to a massive total (389/4 in 50 overs). Maxwell's knock includes 4 fours and 4 sixes. Hardik Pandya, Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammad Shami bagged a wicket each among Indian bowlers.

During the chase, Indian openers once again put up a half-century stand but failed to build on from there. Captain Virat Kohli (89 off 87) and vice-captain KL Rahul (76 off 66) both got to their half-centuries but failed to take India over the line. Courtesy of all the contributions, India managed to get to 338/9 in 50 overs conceding a 51-run victory for hosts Australia.

Steven Smith bagged the 'Player of the Match' award for his 62-ball century that helped Australia bag a massive victory to win the series. Australia are currently leading the 3-match ODI series by 2-0. The third and final ODI of the series will be played at the Manuka Oval in Canberra on Wednesday (Dec 02).
