Having opted to bat first, Delhi were hoping for a better start to their innings with Marcus Stoinis and Shikhar Dhawan at the top. Instead, they lost three quick wickets with just 22 runs on the board to make things worse for them. Then struggling Rishabh Pant (56 off 38) and in-form Delhi skipper Shreyas Iyer (65* off 50) added 96 runs for the fourth wicket to take Delhi to a competitive total.

With early wickets at the beginning and no fireworks at the end, Delhi finished with a total of 156/7 in 20 overs. Among MI bowlers, Trent Boult bagged three wickets taking his overall tally to 25 in the IPL 2020 season. Meanwhile, Nathan Coulter-Nile bagged two wickets while Jayant Yadav picked up a wicket.

During the chase, Mumbai played like defending champions. With partnerships all through the chase, Mumbai got to the target with 5 wickets in hand and 8 balls to spare in their innings. Rohit Sharma (68 off 51) was the pick of Mumbai batsmen while Ishan Kishan (33* off 19) scripted a valuable knock in the middle overs. Among DC bowlers, Anrich Nortje bagged two wickets while Kagiso Rabada and Marcus Stoinis bagged a wicket apiece.

Trent Boult had been adjudged as the 'Player of the Match' for providing crucial start with the ball. With this victory Mumbai completed five IPL victories - IPL 2013, IPL 2015, IPL 2017, IPL 2019 & IPL 2020. MI are the only team to win as many titles in IPL with Chennai Super Kings in the second place with three titles.
