Saturday, Oct 31, 2020, Dubai International Cricket Stadium, Dubai
Delhi Capitals needed just a victory for qualification into playoffs but they were left stranded on 14 points from the last four games including this match on Saturday (Oct 31) against Mumbai Indians! With a collective struggle whole as a team, Delhi are now in a spot of bother of even getting knocked out of the IPL 2020 season!

Having opted to bowl first, Mumbai Indians bowlers did not put their foot wrong posing all the threats to the Delhi batsmen! Delhi openers collectively scored just 10 runs (Prithvi Shaw - 10, Shikhar Dhawan - 0). Shreyas Iyer and Rishabh Pant added 35 runs for the third wicket but there was no significant partnership in Delhi’s innings after that! Iyer’s 25 is the top score for Delhi in this innings as they only managed to score below par score of 110/9 in 20 overs.
Among Mumbai bowlers, Trent Boult (3/21) and Jasprit Bumrah (3/17) bagged 3 wickets each while Nathan Coulter-Nile and Rahul Chahar bagged a wicket each. In a crucial game, a batting effort this poor is not acceptable and Delhi eventually paid the price for it! Mumbai during the chase were looked comfortable and were heading towards a perfect chase until they lost Quinton de Kock in the 11th over.
The other opener Ishan Kishan (72* not out off 47 deliveries) then batted through taking MI to a clinical 9-wicket victory in just the 15th over. Anrich Nortje picked the only wicket to fall in Mumbai’s innings. Needless to say, Kagiso Rabada failed to pick up a wicket in two consecutive games including this and hence conceded his Purple Cap to Mumbai pacer Jasprit Bumrah!
The match winning knock with the bat also helped Ishan Kishan bag the ‘Player of the Match’ award. With this victory, Mumbai solidified their position at the top of the points table with 18 points while Delhi need to beat RCB in their only remaining game on Monday (Nov 02) to have more chances of making it to the playoffs!
Brief Scores: Mumbai Indians - 111/1 in 14.2 overs (Ishan Kishan - 72*, Quinton de Kock - 26, Anrich Nortje - 1/26) defeated Delhi Capitals - 110/9 in 20 overs (Shreyas Iyer - 25, Rishabh Pant - 21, Jasprit Bumrah - 3/17, Trent Boult - 3/21) by a margin of 9 wickets
