After being sent into bat first, RCB at no stage looked set and were not going at a good rate with the bat! Contributions from Devdutt Padikkal (50 off 41) and AB de Villiers (35 off 21) helped RCB to get to a par score of 152/7 in 20 overs. Virat Kohli who was dropped on 13 (off 15 deliveries) couldn't make the most of the reprieve he got as he departed after scoring just 29 runs (off 24 deliveries).
Delhi bowlers who were under pressure bowled economically in this game by not letting RCB to score quick runs. Anrich Nortje was the pick of DC bowlers with three wickets while Kagiso Rabada is back into the wickets column with two wickets. For the record, Rabada went wicketless in both of DC's previous two games after picking up at least a wicket in his earlier 25 IPL games! Ravichandran Ashwin picked up the other wicket to fall in RCB's innings.
During the chase, DC lost Prithvi Shaw early in just the second over. By the fall of first wicket, DC has already scored 19 runs. Then the 88-run partnership for the second wicket between Shikhar Dhawan (54 off 41) and Ajinkya Rahane (60 off 46) ensured that Delhi are not losing this game! In the end, Delhi cruised to victory with 6 wickets in hand and 6 balls to spare in their innings thereby ensuring a No. 2 finish in the points table.
Among RCB bowlers, Shahbaz Ahmed bagged two wickets while Washington Sundar and Mohammad Siraj shared a wicket apiece. Delhi pacer Anrich Nortje has been adjudged as the 'Player of the Match' for his three wickets that restricted RCB to a par total.
Both Delhi Capitals and Royal Challengers Bangalore are yet to win their maiden IPL title. By the position in the points table, DC can afford to lose their next game to Mumbai in the first Qualifier but RCB need to win all their remining three games (if progressed) - Eliminator, Qualifier 2 and Final - to win their maiden IPL title!
Brief Scores: Delhi Capitals - 154/4 in 19 overs (Ajinkya Rahane - 60, Shikhar Dhawan - 54, Shahbaz Ahmed - 2/26, Washington Sundar - 1/24) defeated Royal Challengers Bangalore - 152/7 in 20 overs (Devdutt Padikkal - 50, Anrich Nortje - 3/33, Kagiso Rabada - 2/30) by a margin of 6 wickets
