Virat Kohli:

With Virat expecting his first child on the eve of New Year, Indian captain decided to head home soon after the completion of the first Test match of the Border-Gavaskar trophy. BCCI has agreed with his decision but have not confirmed yet who is going to captain Team India in the remaining three Tests of this four-match series.

"At the selection committee meeting held on October 26th, 2020, Mr Virat Kohli had informed the BCCI about his plans to return to India after the first Test in Adelaide. The BCCI has granted paternity leave to the Indian captain. He will return after the first Test against Australia in Adelaide," stated BCCI in their media release.

Rohit Sharma:

Indian Test opener Rohit Sharma who had injury concerns during the IPL 2020 season has been now named in the Test squad for the tour of Australia. With due consultation with Rohit, BCCI has rested him from limited-overs leg of the tour to attain full fitness before the prestigious Border-Gavaskar Trophy.

"The BCCI Medical Team has been monitoring Rohit Sharma’s fitness and has briefed All-India Senior Selection Committee on the same. In consultation with Mr Sharma, it has been decided to rest him for the ODIs and T20Is in Australia to regain full fitness and he has been included in India’s Test squad for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy," stated BCCI in their media release.

Other squad updates:

While announcing the squads earlier, BCCI took a big risk by not picking a reserve wicket-keeper in the ODI squad. Except KL Rahul, there were no full-time wicket-keepers in the ODI squad and BCCI rectified their earlier decision by including Sanju Samson in the ODI squad as reserve wicket-keeper. Meanwhile, Wriddhiman Saha who injured himself during the IPL 2020 season is now under watch and a call of his inclusion into the Test side will be taken later.

In what comes as a bitter news, Varun Chakravarthy who received his maiden call-up into the side had been ruled out of the T20I series owing to shoulder injury. Left-arm pacer T Natarajan has been named as his replacement in the T20I squad for this tour. Ishant Sharma is yet to recover from his injury and he will only be considered for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy if he attains full fitness. Kamlesh Nagarkoti is not fully fit and hence he won't be travelling with Team India as one of the reserve players.
