India name XI for Adelaide Test; Shaw, Umesh in!

The limited-overs leg of the India tour of Australia is done and dusted now. Its now time for the prestigious Border-Gavaskar Trophy. With India defeating Australia in Down Under in the 2018/19 season, this series has become even more important for the home team to beat India this time in Australia and make a statement.

The first of the four-match series will be played at the Adelaide Oval in Adelaide starting from Thursday (Dec 17). And for the first time, both these teams are playing a Day-Night Test match. Yes you read that right! The Adelaide Test match will be a Day-Night Test match. And India made the first move by announcing their playing XI for the Adelaide Test match.

There were questions about the opening spots, wicket-keeper, third seamer and inclusion of a spinner! The playing XI announcement has now put an end to all those queries! The announcement has been made by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) twitter handle.

Mayank Agarwal and Prithvi Shaw are set to open the batting while the in-form KL Rahul has to wait a little longer to make his return to the longest format of the game. On the other hand, Wriddhiman Saha has been named in the XI sidelining Rishabh Pant for the first Test match.

India have opted for a 3-pace-1-spin attack. Umesh Yadav has been named as the third seamer alongside Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammad Shami. Ravichandran Ashwin takes the spinner spot in the playing XI.
