Perth Scorchers lost their home advantage after the Western Australian government announced a complete 6-day lockdown starting from Sunday (Jan 31) night. According to Cricket Australia, a fresh COVID-19 case was registered – a hotel quarantine security guard. The WA hard lockdown will be effective from 6 pm Sunday (Jan 31) to 6 pm Friday (Feb 05).
Perth Scorchers lost the ‘Qualifier’ against defending champions Sydney Sixers on Saturday (Jan 30) in Canberra. They are scheduled to play ‘Challenger’ against the winner of the ‘Knockout’ game between Sydney Thunder and Brisbane Heat. The ‘Challenger’ was to be played on Thursday (Feb 04) in Perth. However, the ‘Challenger’ game is now moved from Perth to Canberra with the fresh lockdown restrictions in Perth.
“We support all governments across Australia in their efforts to manage the ongoing public health situation and wish Western Australia all the best in managing these latest developments,” said Alistair Dobson, Cricket Australia’s Head of Big Bash League.
“Likewise, we’d also like to thank the Perth Scorchers for their understanding regarding the decision to move The Challenger to Manuka Oval. This has been an unprecedented KFC BBL season and the ongoing flexibility and cooperation have been vital in getting us to this point of the Finals series,” added Dobson.
