Sixers crush Scorchers to book home Final

Defending champions Sydney Sixers defeated Perth Scorchers by a thumping margin of 9 wickets in the Qualifier to make it to the Final directly. Moreover, Sixers will now host the BBL 10 Final at the Sydney Cricket Ground with this victory. A home Final is always motivating in a pressure game. Isn’t it?! On the other hand, Perth will have to play Challenger in Perth on Feb 04.

Having opted to bat first, Perth Scorchers posted a competitive total on the board – 167/6 in 20 overs. Josh Inglis (69* off 41) and Ashton Turner (33 off 22) are the star performers with the bat for them! Their 59-run stand for the fifth wicket helped Scorchers get to this total in 20 overs.

During the chase, Sixers did not put a foot wrong as their top three batsmen pulled off the chase quite comfortably. A 92-run stand for the first wicket and unbeaten 76*-run stand for the second wicket helped Sixers win the game by a margin of 9 wickets. James Vince is the top performer in this match with an unbeaten 98* runs off 53 deliveries. He also bagged the ‘Player of the Match’ award for his contribution with the bat in this victory.

On a lighter note, there was a heated moment in the game when Scorchers needed just 1 run off 18 deliveries to win the match. James Vince was on strike and Scorchers’ bowler Andrew Tye bowled a short ball which was declared as a ‘Wide’ after discussion between umpires. There it is…Sixers won the game by 9 wickets and Vince was left stranded on 98*, two runs short of his much deserving century!

With this victory, Sixers move directly to Final and will host the event at their home ground – SCG! Perth Scorchers will now have to play Challenger game on Thursday (Feb 04) in Perth. The winner of Knockout game between Sydney Thunder and Brisbane Heat in Canberra on Sunday (Jan 31) will join Scorchers in the Challenger game.
