South Africa include Rabada for Pakistan Tests

South Africa have announced their squad for the upcoming 2-match Test series against Pakistan. The series is scheduled to played in Pakistan starting from January 26. As part of this tour, South Africa are scheduled to play two Test matches and three T20Is between Jan 26 and Feb 14.

In what comes as a big boost, pacer Kagiso Rabada recovered from groin injury and has been recalled for this Test series. With Tests being played in Pakistan, visitors too filled their squad with some quality spin bowlers. Spinners Tabraiz Shamsi and George Linde are set to support their main spinner Keshav Maharaj in this 2-match series.

Ottniel Baartman has been named for the first time in South Africa squad at the international level while Daryn Dupavillon received a maiden call-up to the Test side for this series. On a lighter note, Dupavillon represented South Africa in an ODI match against Australia in March last year.

This tour will see South Africa touring Pakistan for the first time in 14 years. It was in 2007 when Proteas toured Pakistan for a 2-match Test series. Visitors won that series by a margin of 1-0. South Africa are going into this series at the back of 2-0 victory in Sri Lanka Tests at home while Pakistan lost their 2-match Test series in New Zealand in 2-0.

The first Test match in this 2021 tour is scheduled to be played at the National Stadium in Karachi (Jan 26 – Jan 30) while the second Test match is scheduled to be played at Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium in Rawalpindi. Post the Test series, both teams will play a 3-match T20I series beginning from Feb 11.
