Australian young opener Will Pucovski who recently made his Test debut against India at the Sydney Cricket Ground earlier this year is all set to take a long break from cricket! He has hurt his right shoulder in the same Test at SCG on his debut and had also missed Australia’s next Test match at Gabba.
With Australia’s Test tour of South Africa canceled, Australia do not have any Test matches in the near future. With close to 10 months before their next Test series, this will be the ideal time for Pucovski to go for surgery and fully recover before the home Ashes series.
“The medical advice is this is the best way forward for Will to prepare him for the 2021-22 season. We’ll work closely with Will throughout his rehabilitation and look forward to seeing him back playing for Victoria and Australia later this year,” said Shaun Graf, Cricket Victoria’s General Manager of Cricket.
On his Test debut against India at SCG, Pucovski scored 62 & 10 runs at SCG which India managed to Draw. India went on to win the last Test match of the 4-match series at Gabba in Brisbane to win the series by 2-1, registering their second series victory on the trot in Australia.
