Anderson, Archer return for Day-Night Test Match

England have announced their squad for the third Test of the 4-match series against India. James Anderson who was rested for the second Test match has been recalled for the third Test. Pacer Jofra Archer who picked up a niggle ahead of the second Test is now available for selection for the third Test.

Jonny Bairstow and Mark Wood have been rested from the first two Tests in India. They featured in both the Test matches in Sri Lanka before coming to India. Both have now been included in the squad for the third India Test. Zak Crawley had a poor Sri Lanka tour as an opener. However, he was slated to bat at No. 3 in the India series but had to miss the first two Tests owing to an injury to his right wrist. He has now recovered and has been available for the third Test.

Moeen was tested positive on his arrival in Sri Lanka and had to spend around two weeks in isolation. Since his recovery, he missed both the second Test in Sri Lanka and the first Test in India. He was picked in the second Test in which he scored 49 runs and bagged 8 wickets in the match. Despite a brilliant all-round show, he chose to go home which implies he will be unavailable for third and fourth Test matches in India.

“Moeen’s chosen to go home. Obviously, it’s been a very tricky tour for him, and as mentioned at the start, if players feel they need to get out of the bubble, then that’s been an option and it’s important that we stand by that,” confirmed Joe Root.

England won the first Test match of the series by a margin of 227 runs while India made a comeback in the second Test winning it by 317 runs. The 4-match series is currently level 1-1. The third Test match is a Day-night affair and will be played beginning from Feb 24. The third and fourth Test matches in this tour are scheduled to be played at the newly built Sardar Patel Stadium in Ahmedabad.
