Shai Hope in the first ODI, Evin Lewis in the second ODI and Darren Bravo in the third ODI !! West Indies has a centurion in each of the three ODIs of the 3-match series against Sri Lanka as they complete whitewash. Hosts had also won the 3-match T20I series prior to the ODI series by a margin of 2-1.
After being sent into bat first, Sri Lanka had a decent first-wicket partnership – 68 runs. However, they found themselves in trouble with wickets at regular intervals. Lanka lost their first 6 wickets with just 151 runs on the board. It was then one got to see the masterclass of Ashen Bandara and Wanindu Hasaranga. The duo shared an unbeaten 123-run stand for the 7th wicket as both scored their corresponding half-centuries (Ashen Bandara – 55* off 74 & Wanindu Hasaranga – 80* off 60).
Courtesy of this mammoth stand, Sri Lanka finished with 274/6 on the board in 50 overs. Barring this duo, none of the other Sri Lankan batsmen in this match got to the 50-mark. Among West Indies bowlers, Akela Hosein bagged 3 wickets while Jason Mohammed and Alzarri Joseph accounted for a wicket each.
The 111-run partnership between Darren Bravo (102 off 132) and Shai Hope (64 off 72) headlined during the chase. Captain Kieron Pollard too scored an unbeaten half-century lower down the order as the hosts romped home with 5 wickets in hand and 9 balls to spare.
Darren Bravo has been adjudged as the ‘Player of the Match’ for his century while Shai Hope bagged the ‘Player of the Series’ award for his consistency throughout the series – 258 runs in 3 innings. With this third ODI, the limited-overs leg between West Indies and Sri Lanka comes to an end. The 2-match Test series starts on 21st March with both matches being hosted by Sir Vivian Richards Stadium in Antigua.
