CSK escape KKR scare to register their 3rd victory

After being sent into bat first, Chennai Super Kings started hitting from the first over! Both their openers scored half-centuries each. Ruturaj Gaikwad had a quiet start to the tournament with low scores in the first 3 games but he is back among runs with a well-compiled 64 in this match. The other opener batted all through remaining unbeaten on 95* off 60 deliveries with 9 fours and 4 sixes. Moeen Ali (25 off 12), MS Dhoni (17 off 8) and Ravindra Jadeja (6* off 1) all contributed as CSK finished with 220/3 in 20 overs.

Varun Chakravarthy was the pick of KKR bowlers with a wicket and conceding just 27 runs from his 4 overs. Andre Russell and Sunil Narine with a wicket each are the other wicket-takers in this match. Pat Cummins (0/58) and Prasidh Krishna (0/49) conceded too heavily in their quota of 4 overs each.

Defending a mammoth target, Deepak Chahar once again ran through the opposition top-order. He picked up 4 wickets in the top 4 as Knight Riders were reduced to 31/5 inside the powerplay. Then three master-class innings from the middle order almost won them the match. Andre Russel scored 54 runs off 22 deliveries with 3 fours and 6 sixes before getting dismissed in the 12th over. Dinesh Karthik then led the charge with a 24-ball 40 that included 4 fours and 2 sixes.

Once Karthik got dismissed in the 15th over, Pat Cummins showed his power-hitting abilities to display. He scored 30 runs off the 16th Over bowled by Sam Curran and that raised the hopes of KKR winning this game. However, they fell short by 18 runs, in the end, to concede CSK their 3rd victory in this season. Cummins remained unbeaten on 66* off 34 deliveries which included 4 fours and 6 sixes.

Brief Scores: Chennai Super Kings – 220/3 in 20 overs (Faf du Plessis – 95*, Varun Chakravarthy – 1/27) defeated Kolkata Knight Riders – 202 all out in 19.1 overs (Pat Cummins – 66*, Deepak Chahar – 4/29) by a margin of 18 runs
