Miller, Morris lead RR to last-over victory over DC

Rajasthan Royals (RR) were under pressure going into this match against Delhi Capitals (DC) as they had lost their first high-scoring encounter against Punjab Kings at the same venue. Chris Morris became their hero as he had hit 4 sixes in the last two overs to take them over the line comfortably with 2 balls to spare in their innings. Not to forget, David Miller played a great hand scoring his half-century when top-order collectively failed with the bat.

DC had a great last game chasing against Chennai Super Kings but they were reduced to 37/4 after being sent into bat first in this match. Captain Rishabh Pant (51 off 32) along with Lalit Yadav (20 off 24) added 51 runs for the 5th wicket and that helped them break out of jail. However, Capitals’ hopes of getting to a huge total were put to rest by the run-out of Pant in the 13th over. With little cameos, in the end, Chris Woakes (15* off 11) and Tom Curran (21 off 16) helped DC finish with 147/8 in 20 overs.

Jayadev Unadkat was the pick of RR bowlers with 3 wickets in his 4 overs. He was economical too having conceded just 15 runs in this match. He got the wickets of all the Capitals’ top 3 batsmen in this match – Prithvi Shaw, Shikhar Dhawan & Ajinkya Rahane. The brilliant slower deceiving ball he bowled to Rahane would be the highlight in this spell. Mustafizur Rahman with 2 wickets and Chris Morris with a wicket were the other wicket-takers for RR in this match.

Chasing a tricky total, Royals were reduced to 42/5 in no time. With half of their side back in the hut, any chances of winning the game have more relied on the shoulders of three players – David Miller, Rahul Tewatia & Chris Morris. Two of them succeeded and had taken them to a memorable victory. Miller scored a half-century, 62 runs off 43 deliveries which included 7 fours and 2 sixes. It was this innings that at least gave RR a chance of chasing down the target.

With 27 runs needed off the last 2 overs, Chris Morris had hit 4 sixes to take them to a memorable 3-wicket victory with 2 balls to spare in their innings. Morris remained unbeaten in this victory with 36* off 18 balls that included 4 sixes. Among DC bowlers, Avesh Khan bagged 3 wickets while Chris Woakes and Kagiso Rabada accounted for 2 wickets each. Unadkat bagged the Player of the Match award for his superb bowling performance after electing to bowl first.

Brief Scores: Rajasthan Royals – 150/7 in 19.4 overs (David Miller – 62, Avesh Khan – 3/32) defeated Delhi Capitals – 147/8 in 20 overs (Rishabh Pant – 51, Jayadev Unadkat – 3/15) by a margin of 3 wickets
