England pacer Jofra Archer has been ruled out of the upcoming 2-match Test series against England owing to his right elbow injury. According to England & Wales Cricket Board (ECB), he suffered pain in his right elbow during a county championship match for Sussex last week, making him only bowl five overs in the opposition’s second innings. He was also unable to bowl on the final two days of the first-class match!
“England and Sussex seamer Jofra Archer has been ruled out of the LV= Insurance Test Series against New Zealand starting next month. Archer, who returned to action for Sussex in the LV= Insurance County Championship against Kent this week at Hove, only bowled five overs in Kent’s second innings,” stated ECB in their media release.
“Archer was suffering from pain in his right elbow when bowling and was unable to bowl in the final two days of the match. The England and Sussex medical teams will now seek guidance, and Archer will see a medical consultant later this week to determine the next course of action on the management of his elbow,” added the release.
It is important for England to rest Archer for a considerable amount of time with a World T20 and Ashes coming up later this year. He is crucial in England’s bowling line-up and his fitness has to matter most for them in this challenging year.
The 2-match Test series between England and New Zealand will kick start at the Lord’s stadium on 02nd June in London. The second Test will be played beginning from 10th June at Edgbaston in Birmingham.
