West Indies to support Future Stars in CPL 2021

Cricket West Indies (CWI) in their latest release has stated that they are going to continue their support for the talented youngsters across the Caribbean. In what will be a third straight season, each of the six franchises in the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) are asked to retain/draft two youngsters each. All these 12 players are placed under the Emerging players’ category.

According to CWI, each franchise should field each of these Emerging players for at least a minimum of five matches in the upcoming season. This has been made a mandate by the board as that would give the youngsters the much-needed competitive playing experience and a chance to train with some of the best coaching staff and experienced players.

Out of the 12 players picked for the upcoming 2021 season, four players – Joshua James, Kirk McKenzie, Kadeem Alleyne and Leonardo Julien – will be featuring in their maiden CPL tournament this year.  Here is the complete list of Emerging players for CPL 2021: Joshua Bishop and Nyeem Young (Barbados Tridents), Ashmead Nedd and Kevin Sinclair (Guyana Warriors), Joshua James and Kirk McKenzie (Jamaica Tallawahs), Dominic Drakes and Joshua Da Silva (St Kitts & Nevis Patriots), Kadeem Alleyne and Jeavor Royal (St Lucia Zouks), Leonardo Julien and Jayden Seales (Trinbago Knight Riders).

“CWI is extremely happy for the 12 Emerging Players who will participate in this year’s CPL tournament. The Emerging Player programme is now a focal point of our elite player pathway and the CPL plays a critical role in exposing these young players to elite players and high-level competition. We have no doubt that the experience gained by these young players will be a significant factor in establishing the next generation of international players within this format of the game,” said Jimmy Adams, CWI Director of Cricket.
