Home team West Indies thumped Australia in the second straight game in as many days to take a lead of 2-0 in the 5-match T20I series. Even though Australia put up a fight till the end, the second T20I went only one-sided in favor of West Indies. Right from adding a huge total on the board to inflicting a collapse towards the end of Aussie innings, the home team have done all the things right!
After being sent into bat first, West Indies were boosted by the 103-run partnership between Shimron Hetmyer (61 off 36) and Dwayne Bravo. After Hetmyer departed, Andre Russell joined the party as he along with Bravo scored 34 runs in the last 2.1 overs! West Indies ended their innings with a massive 196/4 in 20 overs as Bravo and Russell remained unbeaten on 47* and 24* respectively! None of the Aussie bowlers managed to pick up 2 wickets in this innings!
Chasing a mammoth total, Australia lost both their openers cheaply inside 4 overs. Though Mitchell Marsh scored his second consecutive half-century in this series, his innings did only help them to go past the 100-mark! Once he departed, they once again lost 7 wickets adding just 39 runs for the last 7 wickets! From 101/3, Australia were eventually bowled out for 140 conceding Windies a massive 56-run victory.
Shimron Hetmyer has been adjudged as the ‘Player of the Match’ for his explosive batting up the top that really set the tone for the home team to post a mammoth total. The third T20I of the series will be played in two days time. Hopefully, the visitors will have enough time to prepare and put up a fight!
Hits & Flops:
Shimron Hetmyer was under lot if pressure going into this game, however, he ran the show with his fine half-century. Dwayne Bravo and Andre Russell too came into the limelight with crucial contributions. Australia’s Mitchell Marsh was their only positive in this match as he scored his second consecutive half-century in this series. On the other hand, Australia’s bowling unit completely failed today and Chris Gayle is currently under the pump who is really finding it hard to score some runs, be it slow or quick!
