England pacer Stuart Broad has been ruled out of the remainder of the ongoing 5-match Test series against India. One Test was already completed in which he picked up just a wicket in India’s second innings. According to this new development, he will not be taking part in the remaining four Test matches against India. According to scans done on Broad, he sustained a torn right calf muscle injury.

Right-arm pacer Sqaib Mahmood has been called up to England’s Test squad ahead of this second Test match against India at Lord’s. Meanwhile, James Anderson is also being speculated to miss the Lord’s Test owing to an injury. Mark Wood might replace Broad in the playing XI and one between Craig Overton and Saqib Mahmood will take the place of James Anderson in the XI.
In the absence of senior players, Saqib Mahmood superbly led their young bowling team against Pakistan in limited-overs series at home. Provided the opportunity, Mahmood might also perform in this Test series. Broad had so far represented England in 149 Test matches and the Lord’s Test match could have been his 150th appearance in this format. However, he now has a chance to play this milestone Test match during the Ashes series towards the end of this year in Australia.
The first Test match between England and India played at Trent Bridge ended in a Draw as the play on Day 5 was completely abandoned due to rain. If not for the rain, we would have witnessed a result for sure in that game! The second Test match will be played at the Lord’s venue beginning from Thursday (Aug 12).
