The first Test match between England and India which was played at Trent Bridge ended in a Draw as there was no play on Day 5 due to rain. According to the new WTC rules of the current 2021-23 cycle, 12 points for a win, 6 points in case of a tie and 4 points for Draw. And England and India were rightly awarded 4 points each.
However, both teams were later found to be two overs short and as a result both England and India were docked 2 rating points each. Also, both the captains were fined 40% of their match fee. At Trent Bridge, England had fielded four pacers without any spinner in their line-up. On the other hand, India fielded 4 pacers and a lone spinner in their XI. However, India’s spinner Ravindra Jadeja bowled very few overs to have an affect on the over-rate!
During the WTC 2019-21, Australia were docked rating points owing to slow over-rate against India at MCG and eventually they missed out on a spot in the WTC Final. It has to be seen how costly this latest docking would be for England and India in this ongoing cycle! The first Test match at Trent Bridge ended in a Draw while the second Test match will be played at Lord’s beginning from Thursday (Aug 12).
