WT20 2021: Bangladesh, Scotland qualify to Super 12 from Group B

Match #9: Bangladesh defeated PNG by 84 runs

Bangladesh went into this match in a must-win situation and they trounced Papua New Guinea by a huge margin of 84 runs. With this victory, they have secured a berth in the 'Super 12' having finished in the top 2 from Group B.

Having opted to bat first, Mahmudullah (50 off 28) and Shakib al Hasan (46 off 37) led them to 181/7 in 20 overs. Though Mushfiqur Rahim (5 off 8) once again failed with the bat, Bangladesh managed to post a mammoth total on the board! Though PNG bowlers failed to restrict Bangladesh to a low target, their fielding effort was simply superb taking all the difficult catches!

During the chase, none of the PNG top 7 batters got into double digits! Their no.8 player Kiplin Doriga put on a valiant effort to score 46 runs off 34 deliveries including 2 fours and 2 sixes but his innings was not enough to take them over the line! Shakib al Hasan was the pick of the bowlers with bowling figures of 4/9 from his 4 overs. He was also adjudged as the Player of the Match for his superb show in this match!

Match #10: Scotland defeated Oman by 8 wickets

It was a straight shoot-out between these two teams for a Super 12 spot and Scotland got the better of Oman to register their third victory in 3 games to move to the next round! Oman were jolted back by the quick wickets of Jatinder Singh (0 off 1) and Kashyap Prajapati (3 off 8) after opting to bat first.

Aqib Ilyas (37 off 35), Zeeshan Maqsood (34 off 30), Mohammad Nadeem (25 off 21) contributed with the bat but Oman only got to 122 all out in 20 overs with no other double digit score in their innings! Scotland's Josh Davey has been the pick of their bowlers with bowling figures of 3/25 from his 4 overs. This spell also helped him bag Player of the Match in this match!

Chasing just 123 to win, Scotland openers Kyle Coetzer (41 off 28) and George Munsey (20 off 19) scored 61 runs between them and were the only wickets to fall during this run-chase. Richie Berrington (31* off 21) and Matthew Cross (26* off 35) both remained unbeaten to take them home with 8 wickets in hand and 3 overs to spare in their innings!
