Australia thrash England at MCG to retain urn

Australia continues its dominance on the field against England in the ongoing Ashes series as the home team has taken an unassailable lead of 3-0 in the 5-match series 2 matches to go! Australia won the home series in 2017 and had drawn the 2019 series in England before winning it this year. With this victory, Australia retained the Ashes' urn for themselves.

The third Test match at MCG has been completed in just 2 days plus an hour extra, not even half of the allotted 5 days of a Test match! That's how bad England's performance is with the bat in this MCG Test match which also has been their story in the series so far!

After being sent into bat first on a green top, England were bowled out for 185 in their first innings courtesy of a half-century from Joe Root. England bowlers did show a lot of heart to bowl out Australia for 267 runs in their first innings. At that stage, Australia have a lead of 82 runs in the second innings. What followed then was a nightmare for Joe Root and his men!

England were bowled out for 68 runs in their second innings conceding Australia the match by a margin of an innings and 14 runs! Joe Root (28) and Ben Stokes (11) are their only batters to get into double digits! Scott Boland, on debut, demolished England in this second innings with bowling figures of 6/7 from just his 4 overs! He was also adjudged as the Player of the Match for his effort with the ball.

Australia are now leading the 5-match Test series by 3-0. Winning a series with 2 matches still to go in the series was a great achievement for the home team. More importantly, Pat Cummins has now become Ashes-winning captain! The fourth Test match will be played at SCG from January 05.

Brief Scores: Australia - 267 all out (Marcus Harris - 76, James Anderson - 4/33) defeated England - 185 all out (Joe Root - 50, Nathan Lyon - 3/36) & 68 all out (Joe Root - 28, Scott Boland - 6/7) by a margin of an innings and 14 runs
