Australia's newly appointed captain Pat Cummins had a day out with the ball as he registered a five-wicket haul in just his first innings as Australia's Test captain - 5/38! This was also his maiden 5-wicket haul in Tests against England!

Mitchell Starc was under pressure going into this Test match but he bowled really well in this Test match! In fact, he dismissed England opener Rory Burns off the very first ball on Day 1 to set up this Test match nicely! With the wicket of Jos Buttler in the second session on Day 1, Starc ended up with 2 wickets in this innings!

Josh Hazlewood picked up 2 wickets upfront in the first hour of the first session including the wicket of in-form Joe Root to help Australia make early inroads into England's batting line-up. Cameron Green too bagged his maiden Test wicket when he dismissed well-set Ollie Pope on 35.

Nathan Lyon who was just one short of 400 Test wickets failed to pick up a wicket in this innings. Jos Buttler top-scored for England with 39 runs as England are bowled out for 147 runs in their first innings. Australia will surely look to bat deep in their first innings and take a heavy lead in this Test match. Remember, the second and third days are better days to bat at the Gabba!

Brief Scores: England - 147 all out (Jos Buttler - 39, Ollie Pope - 35, Pat Cummins - 5/38, Mitchell Starc - 2/35) bowled out on Day 1
