Hazlewood ruled out of second Ashes Test at Adelaide

Australian pacer Josh Hazlewood has been ruled out of the second Ashes Test match against England which is scheduled to be played at Adelaide Oval beginning on Thursday (Dec 16). Australia won the Gabba Test match by a huge margin last week and this would be a big blow for them who would be very much pleased to whitewash England in this Ashes series!

During England's second innings on Day 3 at the Gabba, Hazlewood bowled just 8 overs and had not bowled at all during the third session on Day 3. There were suspicions of an injury concern to Josh on Day 3 but he returned to bowl on Day 4 picking up the wicket of Jos Buttler.

Later it was made public by Australia's Test captain Pat Cummins that Hazlewood sustained a mile side strain on Day 3 at Gabba and the scans later in the day revealed that he was at least fit enough to bowl on Day 4. It is now official that Hazlewood has been ruled out of the second Ashes Test match with a side strain.

"Josh Hazlewood has officially been ruled out of the second Vodafone Ashes Test after suffering a mild side strain during the nine-wicket win in Brisbane. Hazlewood flew home to Sydney on Sunday who will now commence rehabilitation in the hopes of being fit for the Boxing Day Test," as reported by Cricket Australia's official website.

Australia have pacers Jhye Richardson and Michael Neser in their squad who can take Hazlewood's place in the playing XI! There is no official announcement yet from Australia about their playing XI for the Adelaide Test match!

Moreover, opener David Warner sustained a rib injury during their first innings at Gabba and had not come out to the field during the whole of England's second innings. Also, he did not open during Australia's 2nd innings as well! There is no official announcement on Warner yet from the team.

Josh Hazlewood had remarkable bowling figures of 5/8 in their last Day-Night Test match at Adelaide against India last year. Incidentally, India under the captaincy of Virat Kohli were bowled out for just 36 runs in that Test match! Hazlewood would surely be missed in this year's Adelaide Test match!
