How did India fare in South Africa Test series in 2018?

India tour of South Africa starts on this Boxing Day with a 3-match Test series. This will be India's first tour of South Africa in almost 4 years with their previous series at the start of the year 2018. South Africa completely dominated that series as they went on to register a comfortable victory of 2-1 in that 3-match series.

Though India lost the series, they ended the series on a good note winning the third and final Test match of the series! Let us relive that series once again...


Test #1: South Africa won by 72 runs

South African won the first Test which was a low-scoring encounter by 72 runs in Cape Town. With the fifties each from AB de Villiers and Faf du Plessis, home team made 286 on the board in their first innings. Proteas pacers stepped up to bowl out India for just 209 runs helping them take a 77-run lead in the 1st innings. Both teams failed to get past 150-run mark in their respective second innings! South Africa were bowled out for 130, setting a target of just 208 for India who, in return, were bowled out for 135. South Africa won the Test match by 72 runs to start the 3-match series with 1-0!


Test #2: South Africa won by 135 runs

Batting first, South Africa posted 335 runs on the board courtest of contributions from Aiden Markram (94) and Hashim Amla (82). India too went past the 300-mark courtesy a century from Virat Kohli (153) but were bowled out for 307 conceding a lead of 28 runs! Like the first Test, both teams failed to score runs in their respective second innings in this Centurion Test match! South Africa, with the fifties each from AB (80) and Elgar (61), managed to score 258 runs setting a target of 287. Lungi Ngidi bagged 6 wickets on Day 5 as India were bowled out for 151 runs conceding the match to South Africa by 135 runs and also the series by 2-0!


Test #3: India won by 63 runs

India, though cannot win the series, managed to end the series on a high with a 63-run victory in the third Test match at Wanderers. With fifties each from Virat Kohli and Cheteshwar Pujara, India scored 187 runs in their first innings but conceded just a 7-run lead after bowling out hosts for 194 runs in the first innings! Ajinkya Rahane who was dropped for the first two Tests played a crucial knock in India's second innings setting South Africa a target of 247 runs. Shami bagged a five-wicket haul as hosts were bowled out for 177 conceding India a victory by 63 runs in the third and final Test match of the series!
