India were found to be one over short in Centurion in their massive 113-run victory against South Africa for which they were docked one WTC point. This is the second time India have lost WTC points in this cycle due to slow overrate and both were recorded overseas. The first instance was in Nottingham against England last year where India lost 2 WTC points.

"In accordance with Article 2.22 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which relates to minimum over-rate offences, players are fined 20 per cent of their match fees for every over their side fails to bowl in the allotted time," the ICC said in a release.

"In addition, as per Article 16.11 of the ICC Men's World Test Championship Playing Conditions, a side is penalised one point for each over short. Consequently, India will lose one point from their points tally for this offence," added the release.

"Captain, Virat Kohli pleaded guilty to the offence and accepted the proposed sanction, so there was no need for a formal hearing. Umpires Marais Erasmus, Adrian Holdstock, Allahudien Paleker and Bongani Jele levelled the charge," concluded the media release.

India currently have 53 points in the current WTC 2021-23 cycle with four wins, one defeat and two drawn Tests. They are currently stationed at the fourth position in the WTC points table behind Australia (100.00%), Sri Lanka (100.00%) and Pakistan (75.00%) with 63.09 percentage points.

India have won the first Test match against South Africa in Centurion. The second Test match would be played at the Wanderers Stadium in Johannesburg beginning on Monday (Jan 03). South Africa are playing a surviving game in this Test series as India are chasing their maiden Test series victory in South Africa!
